Meet Your Employment Relations Team QHA’s Employment Relations Department (“ERD”) is a dedicated and consummate industrial relations and human resources team. Specialists in agreement making and employer advocacy in the hospitality industry, the ERD is setting a high standard for expertise and professionalism in the rapidly evolving and complex employment relations arena.
The team consists of:
Joanna Minchinton joined the QHA team in August 2008. Prior to joining QHA, Joanna held the position of Workplace Relations and Legal Department Manager with AMA Queensland, and assisted members with a range of workplace issues and medical board registration matters. Joanna has also worked for other membership-based organisations including the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland (CCIQ) and AMA New South Wales. In her roles, Joanna has assisted members with their queries on Award and legislation interpretations, right through to providing formal representation in jurisdictions such as the Queensland and Australian Industrial Relations Commission (now Fair Work Australia) and the Anti-Discrimination Commission Queensland. Joanna is also an experienced trainer having delivered programs on topics including WH&S, policy and procedure development, ER and general business principles. In addition, Joanna sits on the Griffith University Advisory Board for the Centre for Work, Organisation and Wellbeing, and represents the AHA on the ACCI Workplace Policy Committee. Joanna holds a Bachelor of Commerce (IR and HRM double major) and a Graduate Diploma in Employment Law, and is mid way through the MBA (Executive Program) with RMIT University in Melbourne. Charles commenced employment with the QHA in March 2011 as the Association's Principal Employment Relations Adviser. Prior to joining the QHA he was employed as a Senior Lawyer at Crown Law in the Employment Law Team. Charles has worked in a range of legal, industrial relations and human resource positions such as Queensland government departments, law firms and employer associations such as the MTAQ (as it was then known), AMA Queensland, and including a prior period of employment at the QHA. Charles has extensive experience with employment matters including representation before state and federal industrial tribunals. Charles has a Bachelor of Arts in economics and industrial relations, Bachelor of Laws, Graduate Diploma of Business (Industrial Relations) and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice. Charles is also a qualified Workplace Health and Safety Officer. Memberships include:
Skevie first joined the Department in December 2008 in the casual position, and af ter completing her Griffith University law and business studies in early November 2010, Skevie commenced in a full time capacity.Throughout her Uni studies Skevie worked for membership organisations in similar roles, including at AMA Queensland and came to the QHA with a strong customer focus and experience interpreting Awards and providing advice on workplace relations legislation. Skevie provides assistance to members with employment relations queries, including Award terms and conditions such as long service leave, wages, and other entitlements. Skevie can also assist members seeking more information about Award coverage and application (including transitional arrangements) and disciplinary and termination matters. Skevie has completed a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Business majoring in Industrial Relations. Memberships include:
Hemali joined the Employment Relations team in September 2011 in this casual position and provides adminstrative support and assistance to the team and the greater employment relations function. Hemali is currently completing a Bachelor of Commerce (Human Resources and Employment Relations) through Griffith University.
