Q Do QLD RSA certificates expire?
A: Yes. QLD Liquor Licensing Division approved RSA statements of attainment are valid for three (3) years only.
Q My LLD RSA certificate has expired – is there a refresher course I can do?
A: No, not at this stage. You will need to re-sit the five (5) hour course.
Q Can I do RSA online?
A: Yes. RSA On-line does comply with the mandatory requirements for those working in the Brisbane City Council Area at late trading venues (after 1am).
Q I have my RSA from a State other than Queensland – is it valid?
A: RSA is currently NOT compulsory in Queensland, unless you are working in the Brisbane City Council area for a venue that trades after 1am. Is this you?
Yes = No, your interstate RSA will NOT BE VALID. You will need to complete a Queensland Liquor Licensing Division (LLD) approved RSA course.
No = At this time, any accredited RSA course may meet the employment requirements of a QLD hotel. This is a decision for the hotel. It is highly recommended that all staff complete a QLD RSA course that covers QLD legislation, regulations, and penalties.
Q Nationally Accredited – Does that mean my RSA is valid in all States?
A: NO! The Nationally Accredited symbol means if you go to another State and decide to complete the Certificate IV in Hospitality at TAFE, you get credit for the RSA component of that course. It DOES NOT MEAN your RSA itself is valid in all States for work related purposes.
Q I am not 18yrs old yet, but would like to do the RSA – is this ok?
A: Yes, this is fine as there are no age restrictions on RSA.
Q I have my RSG (RCG) from a State other than Queensland – is it valid?
A: RSG is currently NOT compulsory in Queensland so your qualifications from another State can be accepted by any employer if they wish.
PLEASE NOTE: While RSG & RSA (in some parts of QLD) are not compulsory, your interstate RSA & RSG may be accepted. You will find the majority of venues are ‘self regulating’ and therefore require their staff to have the basic, minimum qualifications of a QLD RSA & RSG.
Q Can I do the RSG online or via correspondence?
A: Yes. RSG is available online from TAFE.
Q I did a course with QHA and have lost my certificate – can I get another copy?
A: QHA does not keep copies of participant’s certificates. However, provided you completed a course with QHA and can provide the necessary details to locate your information (such as time and place), a new certificate can be produced. Replacement certificates are charged at $20 each. Click HERE to order the replacement certificate.
Q I need a Gaming Employee License – do you offer that course?
A: No. There is no course required to obtain a Gaming Employee License. You simply need to complete a form 13A, obtainable from the Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing (OLGR) and return it along with two (2) passport size photos. A criminal background check will be done and once completed (and provided you pass), a photo ID will be sent to you. This “License” is valid for 5yrs and comes at a cost of approx $191.
Q What’s the difference between a Gaming Employee License & a Gaming Nominee License?
A: All venues with gaming in QLD are required to have only one Gaming Nominee, and at least two (2) Licensed Gaming Employees. For small venues this two may include the Gaming Nominee. A Gaming Nominee is nominated by the licensee (owners) to be the person responsible for the conduct of gaming. The Gaming Nominee must undergo a two-day training program. Licensed Gaming Employees are approved to conduct certain “gaming duties”, such as supervision of cash clearances. Licensed Gaming Employees are not required to undergo any specific training.
Q Do I need both Gaming Licenses?
A: No. A Gaming Nominee supersedes a Gaming Employee. It is highly recommended, and highly regarded by employers if you have a current Gaming Employee License
